Just seven FHCSG Members started playing Bowls, and formed a small league in 1996. However, such was the popularity of this enjoyable and healthy sport that within a very short time there were sufficient new players who joined to run eight teams playing Triples.

Initially games were played at Yate Sports Centre on a daily basis usually at 8.30 a.m. every morning byt that only lasted a season before the Sports Centre realised that they had to keep a rink free for general public use. therefore the Bowlers approached Thornbury Sports Centre, negotiated a subsidised rate to play there at 9.00 a.m. But it was decided that it was not easy to get to Thornbury at that time, so they switched to Yate to play at 10.oo a.m.

Unfortunately, Yate chose to host Gymnasts rather than Bowlers, so the Bowlers were forced to return to Thornbury where thay are now playing regularly at 10.oo a.m.
